Who We Are-
SEIU Michigan State Council represents 78,000 workers and their families here in Michigan and are part of the largest and fastest growing union in the United States, the Service Employees International Union, with over 1.8 million members nationwide.  We have five locals across the state of Michigan that represent workers in a wide variety of occupations to help make our state a safe and healthy place to live, work and raise our families. Repesenting workers in the following industries: 
 

• healthcare industry  (in Michigan's hospitals, nursing homes and home care programs);  
• state and local government (including state and municipal employees, law enforcement and correction officers, school and head start employees); and 
• building services.  

In other words, we are the fabric that holds Michigan and our wonderful communities together.  We work hard to make Michigan a better place for all of us.

What We Do-
The Michigan State Council is responsible for developing and implementing SEIU's legislative agenda and political program here in Michigan. The State Council is also organized to provide mutual aid and protection to local unions chartered by the Service Employees International Union here in Michigan.  Our mission is to unite the Michigan's membership to speak with one voice to elected officials, whether at the local, state or federal levels.

The mission is accomplished  through the several interrelated activities:

• lobbying
• membership and public education
• coalition building
• member mobilization
