Seeking Executive Director
The Michigan SEIU State Council Director position is a full time position responsible for working with all SEIU Locals in Michigan towards the overall objective of assisting to move SEIU programs throughout the state. These programs may include, but are not limited to political, legislative, growth, and representation goals and objectives as assigned by the State Council leadership. The Council Director is also responsible for the general oversight of the State Council Office(s) and hassupervisory responsibility over State Council staff. The State Council Director is hired by the Council Executive Board upon the recommendations from the Council Officers (President, Vice-President, Treasurer, and Recording Secretary).General supervision of the Council Director position, including the right to initiate corrective action including discipline, and/or termination is the responsibility of the Officers. The State Council Director’s position is an at-will position.
Background, Qualifications and Skills:
• Strong communications, both oral and written
• Ability to organize thoughts and actions and motivate staff
• Ability to work with elected union leadership
• Familiarity with union environments a plus
• Ability to communicate and develop mutually respectful working relationships with political
leaders, such as legislators, appointed officials, and local government representatives
• Computer skills including internet, email, and basic research and reporting
• Supervisory experience
Education & Experience
The State Council Director position requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree at an accredited college or university plus a minimum of two (2) years comparable experience in leading and directing goals and objectives on a large geographic basis (example: statewide). Experience in a union environment as well as legislative/political experience is essential. Good Benefits package. Salary commensurate with experience.
